You need more traffic. Without it, you get no leads, no conversions, no sales. But what’s the trick? How do you drive website traffic and get more eyes on your products and services?
It Takes Multiple Strategies to Drive Website Traffic
Sorry, but if you think you can catch a ton of fish with just one line in the water, it won’t work. Maybe you spent a ton on your rod and reel and maybe it’s the best thing in the water. But you can still only reel in one fish at a time.
Online consumer behavior changes over time, and what worked great last month may not drive website traffic this month. So diversify your strategy and stick to the basics. Sure, new hacks and tricks can be shiny and exciting, but are they proven to work? Will they actually drive website traffic in the kind of volume you need? Better play it safe and base your traffic generation on several proven strategies that are known to work.
Here are 5 of them:
1. Regular Content:
It goes without saying that content marketing will drive website traffic if done often enough and with enough dedication to quality. Be worth following. Vary your length from short to long, be helpful, provide valuable tips, and be consistent. At least one blog post per week is preferable. But why not try more?
2. Catchy Headlines:
The average person scrolling their feed online sees dozens of headlines a minute. Make yours stand out. It needs to be clickable and shareable (two different things). Clickable content will of course drive website traffic because it piques people’s curiosity, so they visit your blog or landing page to learn more. Shareable headlines drive traffic because they expand your reach – especially if they go viral!
3. SEO Basics:
Think SEO is dead? Think again! While Google is cracking down more and more on black hat and even gray hat SEO techniques, white hat is still alive and well. And what is white hat SEO? Well, it may not sound very flashy, but basically, it means you are properly inserting the right long-tail keywords into your text when they are called for and optimizing your content off-page (meta description, etc.). Don’t forget to populate the meta data for any images you use, too!
4. Link Building:
This is so important! Link to authoritative sites in your industry and get them to link back to you if you can. Occasionally, backlink to your own content, but very sparingly. Google wants to see that your website is active within itself and within the industry you serve. This means higher search rankings and thus more traffic!
5. Go Social:
Promoting content on social media is one of the best ways to drive website traffic. Mix it up from platform to platform. You may find images do better on Facebook while short excerpts work best on Twitter. Use LinkedIn’s publishing platform to post a preview of your blog post and then link back to your website to view more!
All five of these strategies work. They are proven to drive website traffic day in and day out. Don’t just use one – use several or even all of them to ensure a steady stream of views on your website pages.
